Role Overview
As a Payments Commerical Manager supporting European markets at Trip.com, you will be part of Fintech Business Unit (MBU) and play a critical role in supporting business development, optimising and managing payment processes, enhancing payment user experience, and driving conversion rates, thus ensuring compliance with regional regulations. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to develop and implement payment strategies aligning with our European business objectives. The scope of the role includes customer payments (B2C).
As Trip.com and Triplink expand their regional offering, this position will also support new businesses and Fintech Products.
In this Role, you’ll get to
- Act as a commercial payments partner to Travix Business and Trip.com Business Units, advising on customer payments, VCN, payment risk, regulatory considerations, approval rate optimisation, transaction costs, and payment conversion performance.
- Partner with the Payment Director Europe to define and execute a regional payment strategy that directly supports revenue growth, margin improvement, and market expansion.
- Identify, evaluate, and develop commercial payment opportunities, including local payment methods, card schemes, wallets, and alternative payment providers.
- Own market analysis and competitive intelligence across European payment landscapes, identifying trends, innovations, and partnership opportunities that drive incremental value.
- Lead payment performance optimisation, leveraging data to improve approval rates, reduce payment costs, minimise fraud and chargebacks, and increase checkout conversion.
- Work closely with Product, Regional, and Global teams to influence checkout design, payment UX, and feature prioritisation, ensuring commercial and customer outcomes are aligned.
- Drive payment marketing initiatives, collaborating with local and regional payment partners, card schemes, and internal marketing teams to launch co-funded campaigns, incentives, and promotions that increase traffic and conversion.
- Provide regular performance reporting and commercial insights to senior stakeholders, including ROI analysis, market impact, and prioritised recommendations.
- Ensure all payment activities comply with European regulatory requirements, partnering with Compliance and Risk teams to manage audits, controls, and risk mitigation.
- Lead cross-functional payment initiatives and launches, owning planning, delivery timelines, stakeholder alignment, and commercial outcomes.
- Act as a regional subject-matter expert on payments, fraud, and chargebacks within travel and e-commerce.
- Mentor and coach junior payments team members, setting standards for execution and commercial thinking.
What you'll Need to Succeed
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field; MBA preferred.
- 8+ years’ experience in payments, fintech, or financial services, with strong exposure to European markets and B2C payment environments.
- Proven track record of driving commercial outcomes through payment optimisation, partnerships, and conversion improvements.
- Strong understanding of European payment ecosystems, including local payment methods, card schemes, regulations, and compliance frameworks.
- Demonstrated experience influencing product, marketing, and regional teams to deliver revenue-impacting initiatives.
- Advanced analytical capability, with experience using data to guide prioritisation, measure impact, and support business cases.
- Strong commercial acumen with experience balancing growth, cost, risk, and customer experience.
- Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation, and presentation skills, comfortable operating with senior leaders.
- Highly autonomous, commercially minded, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
- Fluent in English; additional European languages are a plus.
